BLUE COLLAR OPEN THIS SUNDAY — LOTS OF ROOM LEFT

 

The second of three BLUE COLLAR OPENS takes place this Sunday, July 17 with a 3:30 PM Shotgun start. $60 ($35 for Season's Pass AND $50 Club members) covers your golf, a power cart, entry into the prizes, and a BBQ steak dinner. The 4-person team scramble format for this 9 hole event is designed to maximum fun for golfers of all abilities. Any way you look at it, this is a great deal. Booyah!
 

General Scramble Rules:

 

In a scramble everyone on the team hits their shot and then the team decides which shot is best and everyone then moves their ball to the spot of the selected best shot and hits from there. This process of everyone hitting from the location of the group’s previous best shot continues until the ball is holed. One score is entered as the team score for the hole.

 

Now for the Las Vegas wrinkle . . . 

 

The tee shot to be used is not chosen by the team but by a roll of a die. Each player in the foursome is assigned a number from 1 - 4. On each hole, after all players have teed off, a die is rolled and the drive of the player linked to the number rolled must be used. Roll a 5 and it’s a re-roll. Roll a six and the team can choose whichever drive it wants. From that point the play proceeds according to a regular scramble format.


Pre-Registration is requested. Please call us or drop by to sign-up. Individuals, two's and three's don't worry -- we'll get you into a full group. On the other hand, why not call some friends and book as a foursome! Check-in (and late registration) starts at 2 PM).

 

OTHER TOURNAMENT’S OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

 

We are fortunate to have three major charity fundraiser tournaments open to the public coming soon.
 

Rider’s Cup ~ Taking place this Thursday, July 14, this event organized by motorcycle enthusiasts boasts two hole-in-one contests. A hole-in-one on #3 will yield gold ring valued at several thousand dollars. A hole-in-one on #6 will yield a 2016 Harley. This event raises money for Santa’s Workshop, and promises to have a boisterous party atmosphere. $100 buys your round of golf, power cart, hole and draw prizes, a prime rib dinner, and the knowledge that you are helping a worthy charity.

There are lot’s 
of on-course sponsors for this one. The shotgun start is set for 1 PM. Registration and starts at 11 AM and payment can be taken on site

North Okanagan Shuswap Brain Injury Society First Annual Tourney ~ This event being held on Saturday, August 20 is being spearheaded by one of our own members, Monty Kilborn. As the name indicates this tournament raises money for our local brain injury society. All raised funds will stay in the community. Entry by foursome is the most economical way to go. $600 per foursome (plus $20/person for cart), or $160 per person single/walking, or $180 per person single/riding. Please come join us for this 18 Hole Major Tournament raising money for a worthy cause. Enter by dropping by the NOSBIS office at 364 B - Ross St. NE, Salmon Arm (250 833-1140). You can also enter at the course. 

 

Dave Stead Memorial Society Charity Fundraiser ~ This tournament takes place on  Saturday, September 17. It is organized by the Dave Stead Memorial Society and is called “HELPING CLOSE TO HOME” because it raises money to be distributed to local charities, particularly those targeting mental health. It is an 18 hole event with several options from dinner only, to dinner and golf, to all weekend long. The all-weekend-long option includes two nights of camping at the course, Friday evening wine and cheese, Saturday morning breakfast buffet, the golf tournament, the buffet dinner, dancing all night long to the beat of The Shoeswap Band, and Sunday brunch, all for $152. BISTRO CHANGES
 

Cartar Bragg has stepped down from his position operating the Bistro as a sub contractor. Our ambitions to expand our offerings in the Bistro proved to be unrealistic. We are grateful for Cartar’s commitment and resilience under trying conditions. Moving forward we’ve concluded that we need to get back to our roots and are now offering simpler Bistro Foods like great sandwiches and grab and go items. Kathy and Donna are already setting a new standard for these items. (Donna is pictured here)

Sunday Pancake Breakfast Planned. The emphasis on keeping it simple doesn't mean we won't be looking for ways to enhance the operation. Kathy has made plans to hold a pancake breakfast on the Sunday (July 31) of the BC Day long weekend. Mark your calendars. Whether you eat and then head out to play or just come for the meal, wouldn't a breakfast of pancakes, bacon, sausages and eggs out on the patio be appealing?

 

On the catering front, for larger functions, we have outsourced a great local Caterer, Off The Beat / Hideaway Catering, owned by Dave Kinth. Dave and his team led by Marco have already wowed our Chamber of Commerce Hospitality Event and The Splats’n Development Corporation’s 2016 Splulk’w Golf Tournament & Banquet held here last week. Off The Beat is also catering Thursday's Rider's Cup and Sunday’s Blue Collar Open.

MEN’S NIGHT CHANGE (WEDNESDAY THIS WEEK)

 

With the Rider’s Cup taking place at the course on Thursday we are moving Men’s Night up to Wednesday, July 13. As usual the price is $60 for non-members and includes 18 holes of golf, a power cart and entry into great hole and draw prizes. Men’s Nights are always followed by a buffet dinner. This one will be the first provided by our new Bistro staff headed by Kathy and Donna.

This week’s format will be something unique — a game invented by Marty and called "I Declare". Everyone will play out their ball in full but only certain holes that you “declare” will count for your score. Lot’s of strategy in this “I Declare” game. Details will be provided on the day, or call in for advanced scouting on this locally developed format. 

 

MAJOR MEN’S NIGHT - SECOND OF THE YEAR

 

Our first Major Men’s Night was a great success with over 60 participants — our largest Men’s Night turnout in recent memory — maybe ever! We are holding the second of three “Majors” on Thursday, July 21, with a 2:30 shotgun start.

 

Cody has announced the this will be a four-person team “Shamble” format. Feel free to google shamble but it's like a scramble and stroke play combined.

 

What makes a “Major”? More prizes and a shotgun start allowing everyone to finish at roughly the same time.

 

Incidentally, this would be a great time for a new sponsor (or two) to get involved!

 

OUR BROTHER (OR IS IT SISTER) COURSE

 

Canoe Creek is fortunate to have a close relative just north of Kelowna and we are pleased to introduce you to Aspen Golf Course in Lake Country - a challenging 9 hole course in great shape.  It measures approximately 1500 yards and is an easy walk that can be golfed in approximately one and a half hours.  Adult rate $17.50, Senior rate (Monday-Thursday) $16.50, Junior rate (8-16 years) $10.50.  Check out  www.aspengolf.ca or call 778-480-0062.

SUCCESSFUL EVENTS

 

On Friday, July 8th, Canoe Creek was honoured to host the Splats’n Development Corporation’s 2016 Splulk’w Golf Tournament & Banquet. Over 80 participants enjoyed our course and the banquet.

A surprise visit was made by Sasquatch, pictured here.

Many of those visiting for the first time remarked about how beautiful and well-conditioned they thought the course was. A few were so impressed that they returned a day or two later to play.
 

We also hosted our first ever Couple’s Event with 26 participants. The golf, prizes, buffet dinner, and ‘apres golf’ activities were enjoyed by all. In addition to the regular scramble format we added a Mulligan Pot and a Putting Contest, both of which were big hits. And would you believe that there was music, dancing, and disco lights until midnight?

Thanks to PC and KM for helping create the excitement that led to this idea turning into reality!!

BOOK YOUR LATE SUMMER OR FALL EVENT NOW

 

Did you know that we have group rates which provide heavily discounted golf for parties of 16 or more. The prices are almost too good to be true. For example a group of 32 can have a 9-hole golf event for $25 (cart included) and add a great banquet meal for $15 - $20. Out the door for $40 - $50 — hard to beat. 18 holes events with more extravagant meals are also available at great rates. We can cater (excuse the pun) to any sized group and any budget. NEW STAFF PROFILE

 

Our Pro-Shop staff grew significantly this year. The days of being a two or three person male-only operation are behind us. You’ve seen that Cody and Marty are back, and Tim as well from his year’s as golf professional and Pro Shop Manager. We’ve added Marty’s son Matthew, Shannon Martinson and Emery Bardock featured here!

Emery is a 22 year old graduate who studied Golf Management and Golf Operations at Camosun College in Victoria, BC. She grew up in Armstrong, BC, where she attended Pleasant Valley Secondary and played on the high school golf team. She recently competed in the 2016 BC Women's Amateur at the Beach Grove Golf Club in Tsawwassen and will be participating in the Pacific Northwest Golf Association's Women's Amateur in Cle Elum, Washington. Good luck Emery!

Around the course Emery has quickly come to be known for her cheerful and helpful demeanor -- a great asset to the Pro Shop team.
